¿Sujetos en dativo? El datiuus auctoris y la sintaxis modal en latín arcaico

Resumen

Este artículo examina la noción de sujeto gramatical en construcciones de gerundivo + dativo + sum en Plauto y Terencio (s. III-II a. C.). Se propone que el dativo que aparece en este tipo de construcciones, tradicionalmente descrito como un subtipo de dativo de interés y tratado como adjunto, puede desempeñar el papel de sujeto no-canónico. A partir de un corpus de latín arcaico, se evalúa su estatus de sujeto mediante pruebas sintácticas, semánticas y pragmático-referenciales propuestas a nivel interlingüístico. Los resultados indican que, en estas estructuras, el dativo supera con mayor frecuencia que el nominativo las pruebas sintácticas de sujeto, codificando además el rol semántico S y presentando rasgos típicamente asociados al sujeto: mayor animacidad, definitud y topicalidad. El nominativo, en cambio, tiende a denotar entidades [-animadas], [-definidas] y [+Foco]. Estos hallazgos coinciden con la propuesta de Danesi et al. (2017) de considerar el dativo un sujeto potencial en contextos modales de baja transitividad.
