Abstract

This article is an extended review of Éric Dieu’s Traité d’accentuation grecque (2022). Special attention is paid to three questions: (a) the nature of the Ancient Greek pitch accent and the validity of the evidence used; (b) the role of analogy in some changes in the original accent position in Modern Greek; (c) the purported presence of a stress-accent on word-initial syllables in the ancient Thessalian dialect.
