Alciphron’s Letter of Farmers 2.35 and the Salmakis Elegy: a Textual Observation

Here, I shall argue that the text transmitted in Alciphr. II 35.1 should be maintained without correction. I base my argument on a comparison with the information provided by the epigraphic elegy from Salmakis known as «The pride of Halicarnassus» (SGO 01/12/02) and on a consideration of this epistle more attentive to the literary virtuosity of the authors of the Second Sophistic.
