This paper studies some of the extrinsec aspects (manuscript tradition, chronology, origin) of the Anthol. Lat. (Riese) carmen 686, whose text is here translated – by V. Cristóbal – and commented. Analyzing the composition technique, author thinks that the poem is a rather original carmen – a compound of strictly Vergilian iuncturae, Vergilian reminiscences, allusions to Vergil and poem authorNs own creations –, and not a cento, as Crusius said. Author gives to this type of litterary composition the name of “Vergilian semicento”.
