Suicide for the sake of love is a literary topic that has been widely treated by Latin elegiac poets, as it would be expected, given the close link between love and death in the elegiac genre. We can distinguish mythological exempla from personal suicide attempts, as well as diverse typologies of suicide for love, particulary as testimony of fides et amor, or as remedium amoris acerbi.
