The kind of procedures used in his speeches (R. VIII 560 e-e), whose intention is to eradicate the virtue of σωφροσύνη, is similar to that one used by the speakers of the seditious men in Thuc. III 85, 4-5. These passages describe the employment of axiological terms for the judgements of values analyzed by an observer who pretends to be impartial. The comparison with cases of theoretical debate or with others in which spontaneity rules over the discussion permits to understand the inversion reported by Thucydides and Plato.
