Teles’ preserved texts must still be read in Hense’s time-honoured second edition (1909), which is inevitably outdated. O’Neil’s new edition (1977) has not superseded it. Following Barigazzi’s illuminating paper (1962) on the exile sermo, here we attempt to offer a sample of critical proposals closer to the manuscript tradition and more respectful for the stylistic traits of the popular philosophical dialexis, the socalled «diatribe».
