The paper deals with the origin of hexameter. Several number of proverbial expressions are given to support the theory of the existence of an old tradition of gnomic oral poetry, and, specially, as evidence of an eventual origin of the meter starting from the combination of some prototypical cōla, first of all, that of the hemiepes and the enhoplius-paroemiachus..
