Abstract

Suassum, a word generally understood as stilicidium fumosum, is a very doubtful hapax (Pl. Truc. 271). However, according to the author’s opinion it is a wrong lection of sūcida meaning ‘wool’. The expression sūcida lana became so frequent that sūcida alone took the meaning of the whole phrase. So, the text under discussion should read: quia tibi sucida fecisti propudiosa pallulam.
