The present paper considers Aelian, NA XIV 28, which presents a secondary tradition found in two sailors’ tales about Nerites, the brother of the Nereids. Analysis shows that this typical character integrates the two codes of his myth, the zoological code and the mythical-personal code, in the context of Greek myths about the sea.
