Indignus amor. El tema del amor en las Bucólicas de Virgilio: su interpretación a través de las imágenes

Abstract

The article deals with the imagery used by Virgil, when he refers to love in the Bucolics. The point is made that for the poet love is not something good in itself and therefore desirable, but something dangerous, a fateful force or a kind of chain which deprives man of his freedom. Vergil describes love in terms of slavery, hunting, deceit, disease, madness, and death. In short, for Vergil love is mainly indignus amor, that is to say, the poet has a basically negative view of love.
