Abstract

In Barcina de los Montes, a village of the Bureba district near Burgos, some arae have been found dedicated to an indigenous god called Vurouius. This theonym is to be related with Virouia, a toponym present in the Celtiberic coins believed to correspond to Virouesca, today Briviesca, the capital of the above mentioned Bureba district. In this article the relations among these and other names are studied and some comments are made on the anthroponyms which are extant in the arae.
