La pervivencia en el mito griego de antiguas concepciones vinculadas a prácticas rituales: el caso de Atamante

Resumen


Este artículo es un análisis de la figura mítica de Atamante a partir de fuentes mitográficas con el objetivo de identificar sus características más elementales que pueden aproximarnos a su estadio más primitivo, previo a modificaciones condicionadas por el mito dionisíaco y las consiguientes alteraciones de los poetas trágicos. El análisis de motivos míticos y sus correlatos rituales, así como la comparación con otros mitos griegos y tradiciones hititas, permite definir a Atamante como un rey sacerdote del dios de la tempestad que altera el orden cósmico con su comportamiento anómalo y debe restablecerlo mediante un sacrificio. El mito griego introduce motivos como el del vellocino de oro y el viaje de Frixo y Hele que pueden ser analizados desde una perspectiva astral, y podrían ser la traslación al plano mítico de un eclipse interpretado como un augurio funesto.
