For dating Chariton’s novel: the figure of Demetrius the Cynic, a reverse of the true philosopher

This article aims to demonstrate the character of the pirate Theron, whose false name, Demetrius, in the novel is a philosopher’s name too, contains a satire against Demetrius the Cynic; by considering the whole account, I infer from it the novel has been composed in the reign of Trajanus.
